About the program
The English for Adult Migration Program (AMEP) provides up to 510 hours of English tuition for qualified migrants and humanitarian immigrants to help them with the foundation English language and immigration skills to allow them to socially and economically engage in Australian society.
Am I eligible?
You may be eligible for AMEP if you are an Australian permanent resident or you have an eligible temporary visa listed below.
In addition, you must meet the following time frames from the date of starting the visa application or coming to Australia to remain eligible:
-Register with AMEP service provider within six months (or 12 months if you are under 18 when you arrive in Australia)
-Start your tuition within 12 months
-Complete your tuition within five years.
You can access AMEP after these time frames if you apply for renewal.

Where can I learn English?
English language programs for adult migrants are offered at approximately 300 locations across Australia in major cities as well as in rural and regional areas.

English class
English classes usually take place at study centers and are provided by AMEP service providers.
You can choose from a range of learning options including:
-Get classes through full-time or part-time classes, including some weekend and night classes (if applicable)
-Two streams of tuition, English before work and social English
- Distance learning through online learning materials or copies supported by weekly phone / skype contact and a virtual classroom lesson with an AMEP qualified teacher
-The volunteer tutor program, which provides language support by a trained volunteer
Electronic self-study using the online package to support and complement your learning on an independent basis.
If you have children under school age, AMEP also provides free childcare, while you are attending AMEP classes.
Document translation
Free translation services are provided by the Australian Government to permanent residents in Australia, to support employment, education and community participation. Permanent residents and temporary or temporary visa holders can have up to ten eligible documents translated into English, within the first two years from the date of eligibility for the visa. Eligible documents include identification and relationship documents, supporting documents such as a driver's license, educational documents and employment-related documents.

AMEP teacher qualifications
Faculty members must have the curriculum qualifications necessary to provide the curriculum selected in the AMEP. In addition, faculty members must meet the requirements of faculty and examiners according to the 2015 Registered Training Institution (RTOs) Standards.

Temporary visas are eligible for AMEP
Access to the English Immigration Program for Adults is extended to certain temporary visa holders as specified in the legislative text for English language courses for temporary visa holders.
These include the following types of temporary visas:
