BOOKING TRAVEL IMMIRATION / JEJU ISLAND TOUR
Planning a trip to Jeju? This is the only guide you need.
If you are a fan of Korean TV shows, then it is likely that you will turn your eyes to the splendor of Jeju Island, Korea's holiday destination. Dubbed the Hawaiian Hawaiian region of Korea, Jeju is a paradise for those who love the outdoors, thanks to its mild climate all year round.
Depending on the activities and attractions you have planned, some of the best times to visit the island are:
Spring for cherry blossom season (early to mid-April)
Summer for beautiful sunny days perfect for hiking; However, it is also the wettest season (June to August).
Autumn for beautiful autumn foliage (October)
Jeju is not officially known as the capital of amusement parks and tourist attractions, but its glorious glory is its natural wonder, from lush forests and mountain peaks. Soaring fire to the majestic cliffs and broken waves that you will not forget.
How to get there
The fastest way to get to Jeju is by plane to Jeju International Airport, located in the north of the island. A flight from Seoul usually takes just over an hour, while from the southern coastal city of Busan, takes less than an hour.
If you have a tight budget or have more time, you can try taking the ferry. Ferry services currently run from five locations to Jeju:
Mokpo (Mokpo Port)
Haenam (Usuyong port)
Wando (Port of Wando)
Goheung (Nokdong port)
Yeosu (Yeosu EXPO itinerary station)
Although it depends on which port you board the ferry on and which route it takes, it can take 2 to 4 hours to get to Jeju. Therefore, you may want to avoid this if you are prone to seasickness, as the sea can become uncomfortable!
There is also an overnight ferry from Busan operated by SeoKyung ferry, which takes about 12 hours, but is cheap and comfortable. However, ferries do not run to and from Jeju daily, so check your schedule and plan accordingly.
Way to go back
A decent public transport system exists on the island, but if you want to make the most of your time there, it's best to rent a car. Every day, it can cost as little as $ 15 (won16,000 won) for a compact two-seater vehicle or $ 20 (≈21,000 won) for a four-person car.
To rent a car in Korea, you must have a valid driver's license issued by the country of residence, as well as a valid international driving license, which you must have before the trip.
Please note that an international driving license will NOT be accepted. You should also have a credit card on hand, of course.
For more information on car rental, visit the Korea Tourism Organization's website.
Koreans drive on the right side of the road, so if you're from a driving country on the opposite side, it's a bit awkward, but don't panic - take the right lane the slowest until I got used to it.
For finding directions on the island, don't worry - all rental cars are equipped with handy voice navigation and GPS.
If you go there during peak travel periods, such as summer, it's best to book your rental car online ahead of time to avoid disappointment.
