BOOKING TRAVEL IMMIGRATION / CLIMATE CANADA

Climate

Due to the great latitude range, Canada has many types of climate. Ocean currents play an important role, with both the warm waters of the Stream Stream in the Atlantic Ocean and the Alaska Stream in the Pacific affecting the climate. The west wind, blowing from the sea to the mainland, is the prevailing airflow in the Pacific Ocean and brings heavy rain along coastal British Columbia and moderate winter and summer temperatures. Inland, the Great Lakes regulate weather in both southern Ontario and Quebec. In the east, the icy Labrador line meets the Stream Stream along the Newfoundland and Labrador coasts, cooling the air and causing frequent fog.

The northern two-thirds of the country have a climate similar to northern Scandinavia, with very cold winters and short, cool summers. The southern central region of the interior plains has a typical continental climate. The winters are very cold, the summers are hot and the rain is relatively sparse. Southern Ontario and Quebec have a hot, humid summers and cold, snowy winters, similar to parts of the Midwestern United States. Except for the west coast, all of Canada has a winter with average temperatures below freezing and constant snow cover.

Temperature

In the winter, the parts of the country farthest from the open water are the coldest, so in the interior plains and the North, winters are very cold. The lowest temperature ever recorded was −81 ° F (−63 ° C) in Senag, Yukon, in 1947. However, in the summer, the farthest parts of Canada from open water are the warmest. The highest temperature recorded was 113 ° F (45 ° C) at Midale and Yellow Grass, both in Saskatchewan, in 1937. Therefore, the west coast of Vancouver has an average January temperature of 37 ° F (3). ° C) and July average temperature of 64 ° F (18 ° C), while in Regina, Saskatchewan, on the inner plains, the average temperature ranges from -1 to 67 ° F (−18) up to 19 ° C). The range of daily temperatures is also narrower on the coast than inside locations.

Amount of rain

The humid air masses from the Pacific Ocean cause huge rainfall (due to the mountains) to fall to the west coast and mountain areas. Some locations along the coast of British Columbia receive annual amounts in excess of 100 inches (2,500 mm), but British Columbia receives much less rainfall in winter than in winter because of low pressure systems that move move on a further north road in the summer and rarely cross south part of the coast. Vancouver has an average annual rainfall of about 40 inches (1,000 mm).

In the interior plains and north (Arctic and sub-regions), rainfall is less than 15 inches (400 mm) per year; it dropped as low as 2 inches (50 mm) at Eureka on Elles Island 4.0.3. As the airflow generally moves from west to east, the western mountain ranges effectively block ocean air. Spring and summer are wetter than winter.

Ontario and Quebec have more precipitation than inland plains because the air mass draws steam from the Great Lakes, Hudson Bay, Atlantic and Gulf of Mexico. The average annual rainfall is about 30 inches (800 mm) in Toronto and 40 inches (1,000 mm) in Montreal. Because winters are not as cold as in the inner plains, the air is less drier and snowfall is sufficient to make winter and summer rainfall equivalent.

The Atlantic provinces are wetter than the provinces of Central Canada. Annual precipitation, largely caused by tornadoes, exceeds 50 inches (1,250 mm) in places and is fairly evenly distributed throughout the year. There are a few thunderstorms, and the low Appalachian mountains only produce a small amount of geographical rain. In general, rainfall on the east coast of Canada is less than on the west coast because winds prevail offshore.

Snow

Canadian snowfall does not follow the same pattern as rainfall. In the North and the interior plains, snow falls slightly because the cold air is very dry. The snow is very hard and dry, falling in small quantities and being swept away by the wind. The east and west coasts are areas with lighter snowfall because the oceans often make the air too warm for large amounts of snow to fall. The depth of snow increases inland from each coast, reaching a maximum of about 240 inches (6,100 mm) in the Rocky Mountains and on the shores of St. Bay. Lawrence. Still deep inland, the lack of moisture brings the depth of snow once again. Precipitation rainfall can occur during colder months anywhere in the country, sometimes disrupting traffic and communications.
