BOOKING TRAVEL / TRAVEL ALGONQUINE PROVINCE PARK

Larger than the state of Delwar, Algonquin is Ontario's famous park and a world-class destination for adventurers and seekers as comfortable as their great outdoor experience.

Is there an overnight option for non-campers?

It's correct! However, due to their popularity, you need to book in advance.

Wolf Den Bunkhouse (705) 635-9336 is an extremely popular option because they offer cozy cabins, private rooms and sold separately. Although technically they are located about 6km from the entrance to the park, the natural landscape is very similar, with many hiking trails and canoe rentals available within walking distance (call for them to inquire). Oxtongue Lake Algonquin Outfitters base is about a 10-minute walk from Hwy 60.

While Wolf Den is the only place where Parkbus currently stops, Algonquin Lakeside Inn, Blue Spruce Inn and Blue Spruce are within walking distance.

If you are looking for sheltered accommodation inside the park, there are 3 luxury resorts, including Killarney Lodge, Arowhon Pines Resort and Bartlett Lodge. Although we don't stop right at our hotel, they can usually provide shuttle services to and from Lake of Two Rivers Store or Portage Store - two of our official stops. .

Can Parkbus provide additional stops upon request?

Unfortunately, we are unable to do so for a variety of reasons, including safety, legal responsibility, and our agreements with our parks and partners. However, we are constantly reviewing our activities and if you have any suggestions or ideas, including new stops for the future, get in touch!

Is there anywhere to buy food / camping equipment?

If you're staying at Lake of Two Rivers, or the Mew Lake campsite: Lake of Two Rivers Store is one of our stops and offers basic grocery items (mostly non-perishable) broken) and camping gear. Nearby restaurants also sell fast food items, such as hamburgers, ice cream, chips, pizza, etc.

If you are starting or ending a canoeing trip at Canoe Lake, the Portage Store offers similar products and services. Call them first to make sure they have what you need, there's no other option around!

Is there cell phone reception in the park?

Although speckled and unreliable, it has been (un) fortunate to improve over the past few years. You will get the best reception, and sometimes even 3G / LTE on top of a hill or in the middle of some larger lakes. Ultimately, this depends on your operator - in the same place, one mobile phone may have 3G connectivity, while another won't receive any service at all.

Can I bring pets on the bus?

We usually allow pets on the bus to Algonquin, as long as pet tickets are purchased ($ 10 each way), pets are transported in a carrier or by the muzzle, and the owner is responsible for the fees Sanitation in the case of their pet doing a mess on the bus.

Dogs must be on a leash while in the park.

Are there any bears? How do we hide food overnight without a car?

There are bears in the park, although they often avoid humans and the ability to see one is extremely slender. Check the official Government of Ontario publication (BearWise) about avoiding bears.

Bears, pandas, chipmunks and other wildlife are attracted to human food, and you have to be wary. If you are staying at a two-lake campsite, Mew Lake or Pog Lake, the park staff provides free use of the pantry for Parkbus passengers. Lockers are located at several locations around the campsite (usually next to the comfort station) and require a key that can be obtained at the park office with a $ 25 refundable deposit.

How do we pay for day / camping / backcountry?

Note that Algonquin Park is a provincial park operated by Ontario Park and does not provide free entry tickets like the National Park (Canadian Park) made for 2017.

If you are staying at the Lake of Two Rivers, Mew Lake or Pog Lake campsite, you can pay the fee directly at the camping offices when you arrive.

If you are traveling on the Central Highlands trail, you will pay and get a backcountry license at the Mew Lake camping office (800m from Lake of Two Rivers)

If you are traveling on a canoe, you must apply for your backcountry license at Lake Canoe (if you are starting at Canoe or Smoky Lake) or at Opeongo Lake - both locations have park offices.

How much luggage can we carry on the bus? What about bicycles?

We run 56 passenger buses on this route and generally you can bring suitcases, backpacks, coolers and other camping equipment. We allow a maximum of 2 bicycles on each bus, on a first come, first served basis

In advance, where you must call us in advance and make your reservation.

Folding bikes and folding / inflatable kayaks do not require prior approval as long as they don't take up more space than a large suitcase - if you're unsure, give us a call! Normal canoes and kayaks are NOT allowed because they will not be suitable.

Fireworks, firewood and guns are not allowed on the aircraft or in the luggage compartment.

Is there a bathroom on board? Do you stop on the road?

There are bathrooms on most buses. We also stop 15 minutes for half the journey to allow passengers to quickly access fast food, toilets, etc. on the road.
