Rocky Mountain National Park is possibly the most spectacular park in America. It's conveniently located near Denver (just 2 hours away) and has lots to do and nice things to see. History

Rocky Mountain National Park was established on January 26, 1915. The wilderness designation was made on December 22, 1980 and the park was designated as Biosphere Reserve in 1976.

When to visit

The park is open year-round, but if you want to avoid the crowds, don't visit in mid-June to mid-August, when the park is the busiest. May and June provide great opportunities to see wildflowers. Autumn is a beautiful time to visit, especially on sunny September days. The land turns red and yellow and gives incredible views of autumn leaves. Arrive there

For those flying into the area, the nearest airport is Denver International Airport. Another option is to go by train to Granby station. Remember that there is no public transport between the train and the park.

For driving visitors, see the instructions below, depending on where you are coming from:

From Denver and east: Take US 34 from Loveland, CO or US 36 from Boulder via Estes Park, CO.

From Denver International Airport: Take Pena Avenue to Interstate 70 to the west. Continue on Interstate 70 to the west until intersection with Interstate 25 to the north. . Continue on US Highway 36 all the way to Estes Park, about 22 miles away. US Highway 36 intersects with US Highway 34 in Estes Park, or a highway leading to a national park.
