The private refugee sponsorship program (PSR) allows private groups to fund eligible refugees abroad. As a private sponsor, you will support refugees during the sponsorship period, usually up to 1 year. The support you provide will include
start-up costs, like furniture and clothes
Continuous monthly expenses for basic necessities, including housing, food and public transportation
Support social and emotional refugees
Groups can sponsor refugees
You cannot fund refugees yourself. You must be part of one of the following groups in Canada:
The grant agreement owner (SAH) signs an agreement with the Government of Canada to help support refugees when they arrive in Canada.
Component groups are those that work with SAH to fund refugees as agreed by SAH
Group of five is a group of five or more Canadians or permanent residents sponsoring refugees settling in their community
Community sponsors are organizations, associations or groups that sponsor refugees
