MAMMAL

Skull. Khangaroos, koalas, platypus, bats, whales, etc.
Mammals are milk animals, vertebrates that breathe lungs and most (besides whales and dolphins) have fur.
Australia's mammal wildlife is very different from the rest of the world. No native ungulates, monkeys, cats or bears (and no real native dogs, although dingo seems to have been here for at least 3000 years), half of their mammals are mammals. The bag and we are the only continent to have all three subclasses of mammals (see below).
More than 270 species of terrestrial mammals are native to Australia, about 84% of which are found elsewhere outside the region including Australia, New Guinea and neighboring islands. Koala, koalas, kangaroos, myrmecobius fasciatus, platypus and many others are found only in Australia itself, while New Guinea has some wallaby, kangaroo, Bandicoot and other marsupials, plus another species of echidna
Australia and New Guinea (sometimes connected by earth bridges) are the only countries where all three mammal subspecies can be found:
-Monotreme - mammals lay eggs
-Marsupials - babies are born tiny and very underdeveloped except for the mouth, digestive system and arms to climb right on mother's nipples, they grip for a few weeks, inside the bag or are protected by the flap skin
- Pregnancy - includes most mammals in the world: nourished by the placenta before birth and is born at a more advanced stage (initially some are blind and hairless and unable to travel, others can walk or swim almost instantly), and just need to visit mom nipples when they need a food
1. Monotonous
Mammals today lay eggs only in Australia and New Guinea, although they were more widespread in the Cretaceous.
The most famous is the platypus, found only in Australia. Nobody believes that the first specimens collected by sailors were real, it was a weird animal to look at - and that was before they knew it also laid eggs, despite having feathers and giving milk to them. In its place, the male prey has a venom (so is the only venomous mammal in the world).
There is one species of echidna in Australia, also appearing in New Guinea along with a few other species. They have thorns, but they are not related to porcupines or hedgehogs and are very different (they lay eggs, grow pockets and use long sticky tongues to eat ants and termites). Their closest relatives are of course the platypus.
Monotreme is biologically very interesting, as they are the only mammals to lay eggs as well as have real mammals and breastfed babies, and share many other strange things.
Where to see them.
Platypus are found in rivers and streams in eastern Australia, from northern Queensland to Tasmania, and introduced to Kangaroo Island, South Australia. They can be seen in a number of wildlife parks and zoos, including David Fleay Wildlife Park (Qld), Lone Pine Conservation Area (Qld), Taraonga Zoo (NSW), and conservation of Healesville (Vic) and Platypus (TAS). They can often be seen on tour with Araucaria Ecotours (Qld).
Echidnas are found throughout Australia but can be very unpredictable. They can be seen in captivity in Currumbin Wildlife Sanctuary (Qld), Australian Zoo (Qld), Platypus (TAS), Wings Wildlife Park (TAS) and many Wildlife parks and other wildlife.
2.Marsupials
Marsupials has a number of unusual features, the most famous of which is the use of pockets to carry young people, the most visible thing in the kangaroo family. The marsupial walking and climbing tree generally has an upside-down pouch, and in some small carnivores it is reduced to just one skin fold. Babies are born at a very early stage, and climb into the bag where they hold onto their mother's teapot for a few weeks. About half of all Australian mammals are marsupials.
The Australian Swamp is divided into four orders:
Diprotodonta, meaning 'two incisors'. The main herbivores include about 80 species, most notably mammals including kangaroos, koalas, wombs and cages.
Dasyuromor crooked. These predators include the famous Tasmanian Devil and about 50 other small animals. The largest mainland species is the spotted spotted porcupine.
Peramelemor crooked. These omnivores include grouper and seven species of scad.
Notoryctemor crooked. This is a unique species called the marsupial mole, which is completely unrelated to the placental mole and unique in Australia. It is very rare, living underground in remote areas.
Where to see them.
Kangaroos and wallabies are found throughout Australia. The big red kangaroo is famous for being a creature of the outback, but the gray is located in the coastal forests. A great website to find places to see this family (and the potoroo family has concerned) is originalism. Kangaroos are restricted to northern Queensland and New Guinea, but can be seen in Currumbin Wildlife Sanctuary (Qld), David Fleay Wildlife Park (Qld) and a few captive houses. other. Quokas are restricted to Rottnest Island, Western Australia. Musky rat-kangarros, belonging to a separate but related family, are confined to the rainforests of northern Australia, and unlike most Australian mammals that are active during the day.
Koalas occurs naturally in eucalyptus forests and forests in eastern Australia, and was introduced into Hills Hills and Kangaroo Island (SA) after becoming extinct in SA in the 1920s. Echidna Walkabout leads tours including finding individual animals for ongoing research.
Koalas, kangaroos, wallabies, wombats and Tasmanian Devils can be seen in many zoos and wildlife parks, such as Cleland Wildlife Park and Currumbin Wildlife Sanctuary.
Common tiger tail possessions and common ring tail possessions are often seen at night even in our cities, and during many outstanding forest visits. Other possessions, gliders, bandicoots and unusual nightlife can be seen on tour with knowledgeable guides. Endangered mahogany gliders can be seen at Davld Fleay Park WIldlife.
Numbats can be seen in Perth Zoo and Cleland Wildlife Park. Many other marsupials are on display in other zoos and wildlife parks.

3. Pregnancy. Babies develop inside the mother's womb to a relatively advanced stage of development. Most mammals in the world belong to this group. Australia is the only continent where the placenta is not the only group or by far the dominant mammal group, about half of our mammals are marsupials.
Terrestrial placental species originate almost equally between:
Rodents make up 22% of all Australian mammals of the mouse and mouse family, Muridae. Their ancestors came from the north in some episodes perhaps from about 4 million years ago.
Bats and make 22% of other mammals in Australia. Megabats, such as flying foxes, tube-nosed bats and flower bats, lack echoes and eat fruit or nectar or both. Microbats are bats that eat small echolocation insects - although some also eat frogs, mice and even other bats.
There are also a number of marine mammals: whales, dolphins, dugongs, seals and sea lions.
There are several mammals that have been introduced by humans and become grounded in nature. The longest established is dingo, brought to Australia perhaps 4,000 years ago by Indonesian merchants. Recently, foxes, cats, rabbits, hares, horses, donkeys, cattle, buffaloes, goats, camels, pigs, several deer and three species of rodents were introduced.
Where to see them.
Dugong is found in coastal waters from northern Brisbane, through the Top End and then southwest to a similar latitude. Tangalooma eco-yachts are a way to get a glimpse of them as they float into the air. They are not easily spotted like dolphins, because they do not jump out of the water.
Humpback whales travel on Australia's east and west coast in the cooler months and southern whales visit the south coast and have many whale watching tours. Whales visit the northern Great Barrier Reef during the winter months (May-August) and during this time show a deep interest in boats and people. Dolphins are often easily seen from the coast or boats. Bottlenose dolphins are abundant in coastal areas, IndoPacific humpback dolphins in Tin Can Bay, Qld, and a few other locations.
Fur seals and sea lions are easily visible on Kangaroos Island, Tasmania and parts of the southern coast of the mainland, including southwestern Western Australia (e.g. Rottnest Island), South Australia Victoria and Southeast NSW .
Fruitbat colonies - with large, noisy bats hanging from trees, are found in parts of eastern and northern Australia. Smaller bats (insect-eating bacteria bats) are numerous and varied, and are found throughout Australia, but generally not easy except in a few tourist caves, or when traveling around the tops. trees, above water or on desert desert lands at sunset.
Bush rats and other native rodents are common in some campsites. Native rodents are common in most habitats away from the city (where mouse and mouse predominates) but are small and nocturnal very difficult to see, and there are a few rare and have endangered. Water rats can sometimes be seen resting on logs or waterfront at night, but you need a lot of patience! Some species Rodents can be seen in captivity (eg gerbils and Plains rats at David Fleay Wildlife Park, Queensland).
