Car driving license
As of January 1, 2020, the requirements for temporary learners and drivers will change. All details of the Graduation License Program are available on the Justice and Community Safety website. If you were or are planning to obtain a learner or temporary permit before January 1, the old license rules will apply. If you receive or renew your license after January 1, you will join the new licensing program. This only affects Type C licenses (Cars). Class R (Motorcycles) is not affected.

The requirements for obtaining a learner driver's license are:
-The applicant is at least 15 years old and nine months old; and,
-Complete the Licensing course for the previous learner, including passing the knowledge test on the computer based on the ACT Road Rules.
Pre-licensing courses are offered free of charge by most ACT schools as part of the Grade 10. Curriculum. It is also available from various ACT training providers.

When you have completed the requirements, you must attend a Canberra Access Service Center location to apply for your student license issue.
The following are required in order to successfully process your application, you must:
-Complete vision test (eyes) and meet minimum vision requirements;

-Provide full proof of identity and proof of residency;
-Pay fees as prescribed.
A statutory statement may be accepted to confirm proof of residence where the customer is:

If your application is successful, your new student license will be sent to your designated postal address and the student license package will be provided from the counter.

Learn to drive
To get your P plate, you must keep your driving license for at least six months.
