Renew your car and motorbike license
Before you can renew any student license, you must pass a driving knowledge test.
Renewal of L1 & L2 vehicle license
L1 or L2 licenses must be renewed within 28 days from the expiry date or the minimum L1 & L2 period will be reset from the renewal date;
L1 - 3 months in a row before you can perform an L2 actual driving assessment
L2 - 9 months in a row before you can take an actual driving test P1.
When your L1 or L2 license is renewed, the expiry date will be 3 years from the date of payment if renewed on or after the expiration. If extended before the expiry date, the expiry date is increased by 3 years.
Extension of driving license
If your motorcycle license has expired less than 28 days, you can extend it by providing proof that you have booked and paid for the next stage of the motorcycle training program and passed the test. Test your knowledge of road rules.
When your student license is issued in order to qualify for a P1 motorbike license, you have completed the provisional inspection and advance inspection.
If your study permit has expired more than 28 days but not more than 5 years, you will need to:
Pass the knowledge test of motorbike road rules (at any Tasmanian Service store).
Complete the 2nd day of motorbike course before school.
Obtain a certificate of competency for the Tasmania Service and pay for a new motorbike license.
Carry out a Ride Test for a period of six (6) consecutive months.
Hold a student license for six (6) consecutive months before you can take the temporary motorcycle test to be eligible for P1 motorcycle license.

If your learner permit has expired more than 5 years, you will need:
Pass the knowledge test of motorbike road rules (at any Tasmanian Service store).
Completed motorbike course 2 days in advance.
Obtain a certificate of competency to serve Tasmania and pay the licensing fee for a motorbike driving course.
Carry out a Ride Test for a period of six (6) consecutive months.
Hold a student license for six (6) consecutive months before you can take the temporary motorcycle test to be eligible for P1 motorcycle license.
When your motorcycle license is renewed, the expiry date will be 1 year from the date of payment if renewed on or after the expiry. If extended before expiry, the expiry date is increased by 1 year.
License expired
If you renew within 6 months, the extension is from the expiry date. If your license has expired for more than 6 months, the extension will be issued from the date of renewal and not the expiry date of the license.
For licenses that have expired for more than 5 years, you must apply for a new license, that is, obtain a student license and undergo a realistic driving evaluation.
Renew your license when out of state
If you temporarily leave the State, you can renew your license with the Application for Renewal or replace an out-of-state driver license. You can only renew your license once using this process.

How long can I renew my driver license using this process:
A year if you are in between states
Two years if you are abroad
Up to five years if you are a member of the armed forces regardless of federation or abroad.
You should renew your license one month before traveling to avoid delays that could result in you not getting a license.

They are individually renewed from a license. You will receive a separate renewal notice before the expiry of the Supplementary license. For more information see:

For motorbike learners showing evidence of provisional payment and reservation of pre-course courses or your qualifications for a pre-course training course (valid for 3 months)
Take your picture and provide your signature
Provide current Tasmanian license (may expire up to 2 years) or Full proof of identity
