Short-term stream
With this visa, you can
-Work in Australia up to 2 for your sponsor or work in Australia for up to 4 years if you apply International Trade Obligation (ITO)
- Research (you will not receive government assistance)
-Travel to and from Australia as many times as you want while visa is valid
-If eligible, apply for permanent residence
For this visa stream, you must be sponsored to work in a career listed on the Short-term Skilled Occupation List (STSOL).

Price
Visas are priced at 1,265 AUD for the principal applicant and for each dependent aged 18 years and over.
It costs 320 AUD for each dependent under 18 years old.
You will have to pay other expenses for English tests, health exams, police certificates and biometrics.

How long can you stay
This is a temporary visa. You can stay in Australia for the period that your employer nominates you. This will:
-Up to 2 years in most cases
-Up to 4 years if ITO is applied but the maximum duration will depend on the actual ITO that suits your situation.
In general, ITO applies if:
-You are the internal transferee of the enterprise:
+ Your company is based in a country or territory of the World Trade Organization (WTO).
+ You are a CEO or senior manager
+ You come from a country or territory of the WTO, or
-You are a Chinese citizen / national and internal corporate transferee, independent operator or contractual service provider, or
-You are an internal transferee of the business from a company based in Singapore and a citizen / permanent resident of Singapore, or
-You are an internal transferee from a company based in Thailand and a Thai citizen / national, or
- Your Thai business wants to start a business in Australia:
+ You are a CEO or senior manager
+ You are a citizen / nationality of Thailand
-You are a contractual service provider and you are a Thai citizen / citizen
Stay longer
If your visa is about to expire and you want to stay in Australia to work for your current employer:
-Your employer will need to submit a new nomination
-You must apply for a new visa.
Your employer can sponsor you for permanent residency through:
- Employer nomination scheme (subclass 186)
- Regionally funded migration program (subclass 187)

Include other family members
You may include other family members (called 'secondary candidates') in your visa application. The family members you can add will depend on whether you currently hold a 457 or TSS visa.

If you have never had a 457 or TSS visa before, the sub-applicants you can include in the visa application are members of the family unit.
You currently hold a 457 or TSS visa
If you currently hold a 457 or TSS visa and you are applying for the next subclass TSS visa, the additional applicants that may be included in your application are:
-One of the members of the family unit, either
-A person who currently holds a 457 or TSS visa is granted on the basis that he or she is a member of the family unit at the time, and is currently one of the following:
+ Your spouse or actual partner
+ The stepchild or stepchild of your spouse or stepchild or your stepchild is not engaged, married or in a practical relationship, and is:
- Younger than 23 years old
