Traineeship

Duties 

• Perform consultation with clients including relevant medical history.  
• Perform facials- cleansing, massaging and toning the skin utilising salon equipment as required. 
• Apply and advise on cosmetic make-up. 
• Provide eyebrow shaping and eyelash colouring. 
• Perform gel polish, manicures, pedicures and other nail treatments such as extensions and nail art. 
• Remove unwanted facial and body hair by waxing, sugaring, threading (depilation), IPL/Laser or electrolysis (epilation). 
• Offer non-surgical skin rejuvenation therapies. 
• Perform spray tanning. 
• Carry out skin analysis and give advice about skin and body care. 
• Perform body massage and/or aromatherapy treatment. 
• Provide advice and support to clients following cosmetic surgery. 
• Perform reception duties. 
• Schedule client appointments.  
• Keep work stations clean and sanitise tools. 
• Maintain client records. 
• Provide advice on and sell cosmetic products.  
• Use products and equipment in line with manufacturer’s directions. 
• Operate cash registers to receive payments from Clients.  
• Update and maintain customer information records, such as services provided.  
• Administer therapeutic treatment and advise Client to seek medical treatment where necessary. 
• Resupply retail displays if products are sold and general tidiness. 
• Ensure all deliveries are complete and products are packed and stored appropriately.   
• Provide coffee and tea for clients upon request. 
• Load and sell gift cards appropriately, including proper tracking. 
• Ensure kitchen and salon supplies are at appropriate stock levels. 
• Ensure all reports are sent and saved according to weekly schedule. 
• Ensure staff roster is completed and sent on a Monday. 
• Coordinate group bookings. 
• Coordinate Client call-backs and emails. 
• Assist with marketing. 

Health & Safety 

• Use safe manual handling techniques, practice safe work habits following, Safety and Environment policies, wear protective clothing provided where necessary and take a consultative role in assisting and maintaining a clean, tidy work area and a healthy and safe working environment. 
• Maintain procedures to minimise our impact on the environment and prevent pollution.  
• Report any health or safety hazards, faults, repairs, cleaning needs and accidents and record on the appropriate Accident Report form immediately following accident. Abide by return to work policy. 
• Ensure all equipment is kept in good working order and used only for the purpose for which it was intended. Report all broken or damaged departmental equipment to your manager and record on appropriate maintenance report form. 
• Follow all training instructions in the use of electronic, laser or electrical equipment particularly safety requirement.
• Contribute to cost control through energy conservation, correct storage of all materials and use of equipment per operating standards and manufacturers specifications. 
• Be fully conversant with Salon fire and evacuation procedures. 

Customer Service 

• Provide efficient, friendly and professional service to all Clients. 
• Lead by example when attending to Clients requests.   
• Take initiative to ensure that interactions with our Clients and stakeholders (internal or external) are positive and productive. 
• Work together with trust so that colleagues and management meet the goals of the business. 
• Treat Clients and colleagues from all cultural groups with respect, sensitivity and transparency. 
• Take every opportunity to be a “salesperson” by active selling of special promotions and facilities available from the Business. 

Other 

• Take responsibility to ensure all required tasks are completed accurately and within given time frames. 
• Participate in scheduled training and development programs provided by the Business. 
• Abide by legislation on EEO and Harassment in the workplace. 
• Ensure wherever possible that employees are provided with a work place free of discrimination, harassment and victimisation. 
• Follow business procedures with respect to grooming, performance and conduct standards, occupational health and safety, emergency procedures and all other Salon policies and procedures as amended from time to time. 
• Ensure business and Clients information or transactions are kept confidential during or after employment with the company.   
• Any other reasonable request within your range of competence as required by your manager.
