Piggery Attendant
SunPork Farms, the foundation of the Sunpork Group of Companies, is the largest wholly Australian farmer owned and operated producer of quality pork products. With over 21 production sites throughout Queensland, New South Wales and South Australia.
SunPork Farms is offering unique opportunities for Piggery Attendants to join its team in breeding, farrowing and finisher. These are full-time positions at Tong Park Piggery, a 9000-sow facility located at Warra, West of Dalby. Above award wages, coupled with nationally recognised training and professional development, will be offered to the successful applicant.
Reporting to the Unit Supervisor/Manager, the responsibilities of the role include:
- Maintaining a high-quality environment for the welfare and well-being of stock;
- Cleaning accommodation pens, fittings and equipment;
- Tending to routine husbandry of all stock;
- Provide access to feed and water for stock;
- Move, draft and weigh stock;
- Care for sick and/or injured stock; and
- Administer medications when required.
SunPork Farms has established an efficient, highly skilled yet diversified team that is dedicated to producing high quality, sustainable welfare-optimal products. As a key member of this team, the Piggery Attendant must:
- Preferably have animal husbandry experience, but not essential
- Be committed to upholding the highest levels of animal welfare and bio-security eg: No contact or close proximity with farmed or wild pigs for 4 full nights prior to entering SunPork Farms piggery;
- Be committed to training and professional development;
- Be willing to work alternate weekends and some public holidays;
- Be physically fit and able to cope with the physical demands of the role, which includes working with animals, manual handling tasks including lifting and repetitive movements.
- Must be willing to undergo pre-employment functional assessments including drug & alcohol testing.
- Must have reliable transport; and
- Have a positive attitude towards the intrinsic values of trust, integrity, agile, quality, innovation and unity.
SunPork Farms is focused and promotes training and professional development opportunities and career progression for its employees. All Piggery Attendants are comprehensively trained in animal welfare and husbandry, and are required to undertake nationally recognised training in Certificate III in Pork Production.
As part of SunPork Farms’ recruitment processes, prospective employees are required to participate in a pre-employment medical assessment, which extends to include drug and alcohol testing and a functional capacity test by a soft tissue specialist – i.e. a physiotherapist. SunPork Farms has developed and implemented an alcohol and drug testing programme, which extends to include alcohol and drug testing of its employees.
