Farm Mechanic/ Fitter
South Australian Potato Company
The South Australian Potato Company is a major provider of premium potatoes to the Australian and overseas market. We are currently looking for a qualified Maintenance/Diesel Mechanic/Fitter to join our farm team.
The main drive of this role is to assist the farms in ensuring plant and equipment is adequately maintained, kept in safe working order, and ultimately help the farming team deliver a reliable, quality product for its customers.
There will be diversity in the role, including the need to work at a few different locations, whilst being based out of the Mallee Region.
- Knowledge of WH&S practices and legislation and farming operations
- Carry out scheduled maintenance and breakdown repairs to fleet of large mobile plant, including Harvesters, Tractors, Trucks, Trailers, and farm vehicles.
- You will need to maintain and coordinate an effective maintenance schedule and keep accurate records
- Maintain and repair a range of diesel powered equipment
- Diagnose and fault finding and troubleshooting on a range of plant and equipment
- The safe execution of welding tasks
- Complete service reports to ensure safety compliance for the Company
- You will be required to obtain quotes, purchase and source required parts in a timely manner
- Working in small teams to achieve deadlines whilst ensuring a safe working environment
- Experience in working on both electric or hydraulic machinery
- Strong Character, with strong work principles and a desire to work hard to complete the task at hand
- Able to work autonomously, safely in order to complete the required work as efficiently and effectively as possible
The successful candidate would have:
- Diesel Mechanic qualification and minimum 3 years’ experience
- Class C (unrestricted) drivers licence
- B Class Electrical licence
It would also be advantageous for a candidate to have the following:
- High Risk Forklift
- HC or HR Truck licence
- A or B Class Electrical licence
- Telehandler licence
- Test and Tag Certification
- Agricultural/Farming background
