Minko North Dairy is situated just north of Two Wells and has a very close association with the Roseworthy Campus of the University of Adelaide. The dairy is also committed to steady expansion and the utilization of the latest technology. All cows and mating age heifers have Cow Manager Tags to monitor health and heat. Soon we will have TMR Tracker software installed to help with precise ration formulation.
Duties:
- Report to owner and dairy manager
- Look after dairy cattle, heifers, dry cows and calves
- Plant, equipment and infrastructure maintenance
- Milk harvesting, milk quality and staff rosters
- Identify and correct problems in the machine function and operation as they arise, identify and correct unsafe and unacceptable milking practices
- Determine pasture availability based on growth rates and rotation length. Oversee its allocation including setting up rotation plan and use of temporary fencing when applicable
- Operate and monitor concentrate feed delivery equipment at dairy and elsewhere on farm
- Arranging supply of vaccines, mineral supplements and other appropriate animal husbandry
- Organise mating program for rising 2 years old
- Record all treatments to meet quality assurance requirements and farm policy
- Achieving agreed budgeted and physical performance targets
- Conduct research and facilitate animal husbandry programs
- Communications with dairy industry organisations, suppliers, consultants and contractors
- Ensuring compliance with workplace and WHS Legislation
- Adhering to Standard Operating Procedure (SOP)
Required skills and experience:
- Certificate III in Agriculture (an advantage)
- 5 years relevant and recent experience in agriculture
- Ability to AI an advantage or a willingness to learn
- Current Australian Drivers Licence
- Own transport
- Able to work in a team
- Able to work with and train vet and animal science students
- Good computer skills
- Patient, Hardworking, Resourceful, Trustworthy, Loyal and Efficient
- Understanding and passion for the dairy industry
- In depth understanding of the safety and quality factors that determine the acceptability of the dairy products by consumer
Wage Remuneration Package plus Superannuation will be negotiated depending on skills and experience in line with the Pastoral Award 2020. Accommodation may be available.
